Server 2008 Terminal Services Remote Desktop Connection 6.0
A new article posted at Realtime Community outlines some of the new features of the Windows Server 2008 RDP capabilities. One of the new features is the merging of the full client and the ActiveX control. “In the previous RDC, the ActiveX and full-client instances were two separate tools with two separate installations. With RDC 6.0, these two functionalities have been merged. What does that mean to you? Integrating the web-based client version with the full client version means no separate installation and management of ActiveX controls should your environment move from.RDP files on file shares to web-based hosting of published desktop and applications.”
Some more of the new features in Windows Server 2008 RDP connections include:
- Maximum screen resolution increase to 4096×2048
- Maximum color depth increase to 32-bit color
- Support for ClearType fonts (called “font smoothing”)
- Support for connected USB and other peripheral devices
- Support for Single Sign-On
- Support for spanning multiple horizontally-connected monitors using the “/span” switch
- Enhanced security using Network Location Awareness
- Ability to use client-side themes in remoted sessions
- SSL-based security using TS Gateway
