Citrix extends XenSource reach through VARs
Citrix has started to reveal some of their strategy surrounding the XenSource purchase made earlier this year. SearchITChannel.com reports, “Citrix Systems Inc. is enlisting the aid of server hardware vendors to help intensify its relatively new effort to compete explicitly in the desktop and server virtualization market, with open source virtualization as its latest weapon. Citrix will release “a couple of announcements hopefully before the end of the year” detailing which major vendors will preinstall Citrix’s XenExpress OEM Edition hypervisor on their servers, according to Matt Haynes, Citrix’s director of sales strategies, channels and field marketing. “That OEM strategy will be part of our go-to-market strategy,” he said.
It looks as if Dell will be the first to step up to the plate with “Dell’s On-Demand Desktop Streaming solution”. According to a recent Dell press release, “Dell’s On-Demand Desktop Streaming solution is comprised of diskless OptiPlex 745 and OptiPlex 755 desktops (available in November), a PowerEdge 2950 server, a PowerConnect Gigabit switch, Citrix® Provisioning Server for Desktops Software, and a PowerEdge 2900 storage server.”
