Microsoft Server 2008 Hyper-V Live Migration

One of the features that is lacking in Microsoft Server 2008 Hyper-V is live migration of virtual machines (live migration is refereed to as VMotion in VMware lingo, or XenMotion in Citrix lingo). Well, that feature will not be lacking in Windows Server 2008 R2. As part of Microsoft’s “Get Virtual Now” tour, the live migration feature was announced for Windows Server 2008 R2. “…Microsoft executives will further outline virtualization solutions for customers and also demonstrate the live migration capabilities of the upcoming release of Windows Server 2008 R2…” So, that is the good news. The bad news is that it looks like Windows Server 2008 R2 will not released until sometime in 2010.
