Microsoft and Citrix team up for Virtual Desktop Management
Citrix and Microsoft have a strange symbiotic relationship where Microsoft makes a product and Citrix extends it. This has been true for many years with Terminal Services and XenApp. This relationship continues to grow in the hypervisor space as well. Microsoft makes Hyper-V, Citrix extends it with Essentials for Hyper-V. Now, this same relationship is moving toward application virtualization. For a long time, Microsoft and Citrix have had competing products in the application virtualization space (Microsoft has App-V; Citrix has Application Streaming). Now, Microsoft and Citrix are teaming up on the application virtualization front as well. According to this article by Harry Labana (the new CTO for XenApp), Citrix will integrate App-V package delivery in future releases of XenApp.
