Microsoft tweaks their licensing for VDI deployment
Microsoft announced a new VDI licensing offering specifically aimed at VDI deployments during the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC). There are two VDI license suites called:
- Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Standard Suite including:
- Hyper-V Server
- System Center Virtual Machine Manager
- System Center Configuration Manager
- System Center Operations Manager
- Remote Desktop Services (CAL)
- MDOP
- Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Premium Suite including:

- Everything in the Standard Suite
- Additional Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
- App-V for RDS
- Session based desktops and applications
These license suites will be available Q4 of 2009 and will retail around $21.00 USD - about one-third the cost of VMware View.
