Microsoft tweaks their licensing for VDI deployment

Microsoft announced a new VDI licensing offering specifically aimed at VDI deployments during the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC). There are two VDI license suites called:

  • Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Standard Suite including:
    • Hyper-V Server
    • System Center Virtual Machine Manager
    • System Center Configuration Manager
    • System Center Operations Manager
    • Remote Desktop Services (CAL)
    • MDOP
  • Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Premium Suite including:
    • Everything in the Standard Suite
    • Additional Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
    • App-V for RDS
    • Session based desktops and applications

These license suites will be available Q4 of 2009 and will retail around $21.00 USD - about one-third the cost of VMware View.
