Obtaining Health Status in VMware ESX Server and ESXi

Hot off the press, David Davis (that’s me) just published a new VMware article covering how to obtain “health status” of your VMware ESX Servers and ESXi servers. I start off by explaining what health status is - it is server hardware info like the temperature of the CPU, status of the fans, and whether any components have gone bad (such as the CPUs, RAM, or storage devices).

In ESX Server, you have to install tools from the server provider in the ESX service console. I explain how to obtain the status in both ESX Server and ESXi and I show you how to install the Dell server utilities in the ESX service console to obtain health status in ESX Server.
