Recently, VMware announced the VI Toolkit version 1.0 for Windows.

The VI Toolkit (for Windows) provides a powerful yet simple command line interface for task based management of the VMware Infrastructure platform. Windows Administrators can easily manage and deploy the VMware Infrastructure using Microsoft powershell.

To use the VI Toolkit, you would 1) download and install Microsoft Powershell then, 2) download and install the VI Toolkit. Both of these products are free.

Once you have these installed, you can perform just about any VMware function you want using Microsoft powershell. This is a very powerful combination!
