VMware Fusion 4 on a MacBook Air = stellar!

I recently had the need to upgrade my MacBook Air to a newer model.  Because I made such heavy use of VMware Fusion on my Mac, I struggled with whether or not I should simply buy a MacBook air with a quad core processor and 8 GB of RAM, but my wallet and need to travel lightly won out and I purchased a MacBook Air with these specs:

  • Dual core 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 256 GB solid state drive

I’ve thrilled with my decision.  I ran Fusion with Windows 7 on an older MacBook Air with less-than-stellar results.  On this unit, however, things just fly! I installed Windows 7 from an ISO installed on an external drive in less than 6 minutes — that’s from starting up the newly created Windows 7 virtual machine to being able to interact with the desktop.  It’s been a very long time since I’ve installed Windows that quickly on any virtual machine!

Given this outstanding result, I needed to share this success with virtualizationadmin.com readers.  If you’re worried about whether or not an Air can handle your virtualization needs, never fear!

This is the same set-up I use every day. Glad you like VMware Fusion 4 on the new Mac Book Air.
